After a very successful Europerio9, the Hellenic Society of Periodontology is pleased to announce that the President of the Hellenic Society of Periodontology Prof. Phoebus Madianos is going to be the President of Europerio10which will take place in Copenhagen from June 2-5, 2021.


 

Announcement of the “Fotis Mitsis” prize

by the Hellenic Society of Periodontology

The Board of the Hellenic Society of Periodontology (HSP) decided to launch a prize in honor of Professor Emeritus and former Dean of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Fotis Mitsis, in recognition of his longstanding and significant contribution.

Establishment

1.      The Hellenic Society of Periodontology launched a prize entitled “Fotis Mitsis prize”. The prize is consistently offered by the HSP and its award as well as its name shall not be modified for any reason and by any other organization.

2.      Prize aims are the encouragement, support and public promotion of young dentists’ scientific activity in the field of Periodontology.

3.      Prize comprises:

a.      Monetary award of 1500 euros. Modification of the amount may be done after proposal of the board of HSP and ratification by the General Assembly (GA) .

b.      Presentation with an Honorary diploma.

c.       Sponsorship originates from dental commercial companies or other allowances certified from the board of HSP.

4.      The prize is awarded every two years and bestowed during a ceremony organized by the HSP, included in the inaugural event of the scientific activities of HSP.

5.      Eligible for the prize is every young Greek, Cypriot or other expatriate dentist until the age of 32 years with proven training, knowledge and contribution in the field of Periodontology. The candidates should have successfully completed the first round of postgraduate studies in the field of Periodontology. This includes graduates in the field of Periodontology from the Postgraduate programs of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki or candidates trained in other recognized universities providing specialization in the field of Periodontology.

6.      The Prize is announced by the board of HSP to its members, the dental schools of Greek universities, Hellenic dental association, Attica dental association, Piraeus dental association, Thessaloniki dental association, and dental press. It is also communicated to the European Federation of Periodontology. The announcement defines, among other things, the deadline for submission of relative documents.

7.      Criteria for evaluation:

a.      Ethos and personality.

b.      Studies in the field of Periodontology (seminars, congresses, day seminars as well as continuing education related to the specialty of Periodontology).

c.       Scientific activity.

d.      Prospects of contribution in the field of Periodontology and in the HSP.

a.      Full CV.

b.      Reprints of scientific work.

c.       Documentation of studies, training, etc.

d.      Two letters of recommendation minimum.

9.      Evaluation procedure. The suggestion of the evaluation committee is submitted to the board of the HSP one month in advance of the date of bestowing. The evaluation committee may consider relevant to demand from the candidates a personal interview.

10.  During the bestowing event, the name of the prize recipient is announced, who will then make a short presentation in a subject defined by the jury.

SUBMISSION OF DOCUMENTS FOR “FOTIS MITSIS PRIZE” FOR 2018: UNTIL AUGUST 31st, 2018

Deadline for submission of candidacy is the 31st of August 2018 and the evaluation committee will meet 10 days after the submission deadline. Announcement of results will take place during the HSP’s inaugural meeting on the 12th of October 2018.

European Gum Health Day

“Health begins with healthy gums”

On Saturday, May 12th, the Hellenic Society of Periodontology participated in the celebration of the European Gum Health Day by informing the public in Athens and in Thessaloniki. Another important action was the TV interview with the President of the Hellenic Society of Periodontology Prof. Phoebus Madianos, with the EFP Delegate Assist. Professor Spyros Vassilopoulos and with the Past President of HSP Dr. Petros Damoulis concerning gum health that was broadcast by ERT TV news.

World Oral Health Day

March 20th is the first day of spring and the World Oral Health Day. The Hellenic Society of Periodontology participates in the celebration (of both ...) and informs the public about the importance of oral health and the means available for its maintenance. The Hellenic Society of Periodontology announces with great pleasure that during the annual General Assembly of the European Federation of Periodontology held in Berlin on April 23, 2016 Professor Phoebus Madianos, Vice President of HSP, was appointed as chairman of the Scientific Affairs Committee (SAC), succeeding Iain Chapple.

The European Federation of Periodontology held its annual general assembly in Berlin on April 23 at which it elected its executive committee.


 

Proclamation of the “Fotis Mitsis” prize

The Board of the Hellenic Society of Periodontology (HSP) has established a prize in honor of Professor Emeritus and former Dean of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Dr. Fotis Mitsis, in recognition of his long and significant contribution in the field of Periodontology. 

Institution

1. The Hellenic Society of Periodontology has established a prize called “Fotis Mitsis prize”. The prize is offered by the HSP on a bi-annual basis and cannot be modified. 

2. The aim of the prize is to encourage, support and promote the scientific activity of young dentists in the field of Periodontology.

3. The prize includes:

a. Monetary award in the amount of 1500 euros. The amount may be modified at the suggestion of the HSP board and approval from the General Assembly.

b. Honorary diploma.

c. Offers from dental commercial companies or other allowances approved by the HSP board.

4. The prize is awarded every two years and bestowed during a ceremony organized by the HSP, at the inaugural scientific event of the Society, which usually takes place in early October.

5. Eligible for the prize are Greek, Cypriot or other expatriate dentists up to the age of 32 years with proven training, knowledge and contribution in the field of Periodontology. The candidates should have completed successfully an accredited Postgraduate program in the field of Periodontology in Greece or abroad.

6. The request for submission of candidacies is announced one year in to the HSP members, the two Dental Schools in Greece, the Hellenic dental association, the three largest Dental Societies (Attica, Piraeus and Thessaloniki), as well as the dental press in Greece. It is also communicated to the European Federation of Periodontology. The announcement includes applicant criteria, requirements and submission deadlines.

7. Criteria for evaluation:

a. Ethos and personality.

b. Studies in the field of Periodontology (seminars, congresses, day seminars as well as continuing education related to the specialty of Periodontology).

c. Scientific activity.

d. Prospects of contribution in the field of Periodontology as well as to the HSP.

8. Documents. In addition to the application, the candidates are required to submit five print copies (or one copy electronically in pdf format to the email listed below) the following documents:

a. Detailed CV.

b. Reprints of scientific work.

c. Documentation of studies, training, etc.

d. At least two letters of recommendation.

9. Evaluation procedure. The judging committee consists of five members with a four year term. The committee evaluates the candidates’ credentials and submits their decision to the HSP board at least one month in advance of the award date. The committee may also require a personal interview from the candidates.

10. The name of the prize recipient is announced at the ceremony, where the awardee is invited to give a short presentation after communication with the judging committee.
