European Gum Health Day 2017

May 12th is the European Gum Health Day and the Hellenic Society of Periodontology participates in the celebration in Athens and Thessaloniki and informs the public about periodontal disease.

World Oral Health Day

March 20th is the first day of spring and the World Oral Health Day. The Hellenic Society of Periodontology participates in the celebration (of both ...) and informs the public about the importance of oral health and the means available for its maintenance. The Hellenic Society of Periodontology announces with great pleasure that during the annual General Assembly of the European Federation of Periodontology held in Berlin on April 23, 2016 Professor Phoebus Madianos, Vice President of HSP, was appointed as chairman of the Scientific Affairs Committee (SAC), succeeding Iain Chapple.

The European Federation of Periodontology held its annual general assembly in Berlin on April 23 at which it elected its executive committee.


 

Proclamation of the “Fotis Mitsis” prize

The Board of the Hellenic Society of Periodontology (HSP) has established a prize in honor of Professor Emeritus and former Dean of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Dr. Fotis Mitsis, in recognition of his long and significant contribution in the field of Periodontology. 

Institution

1. The Hellenic Society of Periodontology has established a prize called “Fotis Mitsis prize”. The prize is offered by the HSP on a bi-annual basis and cannot be modified. 

2. The aim of the prize is to encourage, support and promote the scientific activity of young dentists in the field of Periodontology.

3. The prize includes:

a. Monetary award in the amount of 1500 euros. The amount may be modified at the suggestion of the HSP board and approval from the General Assembly.

b. Honorary diploma.

c. Offers from dental commercial companies or other allowances approved by the HSP board.

4. The prize is awarded every two years and bestowed during a ceremony organized by the HSP, at the inaugural scientific event of the Society, which usually takes place in early October.

5. Eligible for the prize are Greek, Cypriot or other expatriate dentists up to the age of 32 years with proven training, knowledge and contribution in the field of Periodontology. The candidates should have completed successfully an accredited Postgraduate program in the field of Periodontology in Greece or abroad.

6. The request for submission of candidacies is announced one year in to the HSP members, the two Dental Schools in Greece, the Hellenic dental association, the three largest Dental Societies (Attica, Piraeus and Thessaloniki), as well as the dental press in Greece. It is also communicated to the European Federation of Periodontology. The announcement includes applicant criteria, requirements and submission deadlines.

7. Criteria for evaluation:

a. Ethos and personality.

b. Studies in the field of Periodontology (seminars, congresses, day seminars as well as continuing education related to the specialty of Periodontology).

c. Scientific activity.

d. Prospects of contribution in the field of Periodontology as well as to the HSP.

8. Documents. In addition to the application, the candidates are required to submit five print copies (or one copy electronically in pdf format to the email listed below) the following documents:

a. Detailed CV.

b. Reprints of scientific work.

c. Documentation of studies, training, etc.

d. At least two letters of recommendation.

9. Evaluation procedure. The judging committee consists of five members with a four year term. The committee evaluates the candidates’ credentials and submits their decision to the HSP board at least one month in advance of the award date. The committee may also require a personal interview from the candidates.

10. The name of the prize recipient is announced at the ceremony, where the awardee is invited to give a short presentation after communication with the judging committee.
